WHAT IS IT?

Understanding women's health care

Women's bodies undergo significant physical changes across the lifespan, and many of the musculoskeletal and pelvic presentations that arise as a result are under-recognised and undertreated.

At Whole Health, we take a whole-person approach to women's health, assessing the relationship between pelvic function, spinal mechanics, hormonal influences, and lifestyle factors rather than treating symptoms in isolation.

Our team includes practitioners with particular interest and experience in pregnancy and postnatal care, pelvic pain, menstrual-related presentations, and post-menopausal musculoskeletal changes. We work collaboratively with GPs, gynaecologists, midwives, and pelvic floor physiotherapists where appropriate, and we are committed to creating a genuinely safe and non-judgmental space for all presentations.

It is important to note that osteopathic care for women's health conditions is complementary to medical care, not a replacement for it. We will always refer on when a presentation requires medical assessment or management beyond our scope.

HOW WE TREAT IT

Our approach

Care is always tailored to your stage of life, your current presentation, and your goals. We work collaboratively with your broader healthcare team where relevant.

Your practitioner will take a thorough history before beginning any assessment or treatment. All techniques are tailored to your presentation and comfort level.

We are trained to recognise when a presentation requires referral to a GP, gynaecologist, or pelvic floor physiotherapist, and we will always communicate this clearly and without judgment.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your first appointment

Your first session includes a thorough history covering your symptoms, reproductive and obstetric history where relevant, and any associated musculoskeletal complaints.

Your practitioner will explain what they find and give you a clear management plan before treatment begins. We will always respect your comfort and autonomy throughout the session, and you are welcome to ask questions or pause at any point.

A NOTE ON SCOPE

Working with your healthcare team

Osteopathic and remedial massage care for women's health works best as part of a broader healthcare approach.

There are some presentations where a GP or specialist assessment should come first, including new or unexplained pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, or symptoms that may indicate an underlying gynaecological condition.

If you are unsure whether osteopathic care is appropriate for your presentation, please call us before booking, and we will help you work out the right first step.
